119 - Rudy Garza defeated Sergio for the title again, this time 5-3. Sergio would like one more chance at Garza, hopefully in the finals at state. Sergio had another battle with Logozzo in the semi's, coming out on top again with a 5-2 victory. A second round match with Dart of Cashmere was a little tougher than expected as he won 4-2.

135 - Ramon started off well with a pin in the 1st round, then was teched by Williams in the second. Two major decisions had him on a roll again, but loses to Russ Chipman and Cesar Avila ended his run at a state birth. There is still a chance that he could wrestle at state if one of the top 5 can't go at state.

140 - A second round 6-3 loss to Cole Webley of Quincy hurt Corkes state chances. He came back to bounce Clifton of Quincy and Turner of Goldendale, before being trounced 15-3 by Josh Thompson of East Valley. Then came the 5th place match against McCourtie of Othello. McCourtie is a throw specialist and caught Corke in a 5 point move early in the match. McCourtie dominated, and was leading 8-3 with 20 seconds to go. Corke then threw McCourtie to his back at the edge of the mat and the ref began his count. Corke held McCourtie there for the final 7 seconds and was awarded a takedown and 2 nearfall points, making the score 8-7 in favor of McCourtie. To almost everyone in the seats, Corke should have gotten 3 back points and a tie match. Justin Corke was so irate that he jumped out of the bleachers and began yelling at the ref. He was promptly ejected from the gym. Josh will have to be satisfied with being the state alternate this year.

152 - Jesse wrestled great as he won with a major and a pin in the first two rounds. His semi match with Freeman is maybe the best match he has wrestled all year. He dominated Freeman early with 3 takedowns. Freeman got an escape on each takedown and started the second with an escape and tied the match as he got his first takedown, 6-6. Jesse started down in the third and earned the escape to lead 7-6. Freeman fought hard to get the takedown, but Jesse held on for the win. Chris Garza then won the title over Jesse with an 8-4 win.

171 - Josh Corriell is going to state!!! Corriell beat Garrett Klein of Ephrata 3-1 and then got pinned by Josh Brewer of Ephrata. Josh then secured his state birth with a pin of Jason Goodrich of Connell. He lost a tough 3rd place match, 3-2 to Josh Thompson of Chelan.

189 - Cody Roos lost a first round match to Paul Hargrove of Cascade, but came back with two wins to move within one win of state. He was trailing Chris Coyle of Connell until Coyle pulled Roos on top of himself and Roos responded with a pin. Roos then lost top Hargrove again and could not handle Ryan Evers in the 5th place match.

215 - Eliseo Llerenas had a fantastic tournament. Only 3 points kept him from the finals. He opened with a pin and then lost 2-0 to state vet Nathan Price of Ephrata. That did not stop Llerenas as he recorded a tech and 2 more pins to get into the 3rd place match against Jesus Gonzalez of Wapato. If Eliseo is inexperienced, he sure learned a lot from a district loss to Gonzalez. Eliseo was the aggressor in the match and won 10-4 to take 3rd place.

The Bears qualified 4 wrestlers for state and have 3 alternates. It will now be up to Avila, DeLaPena, Corriell and Llerenas top provide some highlights at the Mat Classic next weekend.
