Ki-Be vs. Wapato

The Wapato Wolves defeated the Bears 39-30 last season. The Bears last victory against Wapato was 60-21 in 1998.

Key Matchups:

119 - Sergio Avila vs. Raul Zambrano - Sergio has defeated nearly all of the top competition at 119, except for Zambrano. Raul lost to Brad Prather who Sergio has beaten twice this year, but Zambrano also has defeated Mark Schutte 14-8, who is 1-1 against Sergio. Both are state veterans. Sergio will have to wrestle aggressively and carefully because Zambrano has the ability to beat anybody.

135 - Ramon DelAngel vs. Sammy Macias - Ramon is having a big year and is headed towards a big finish. The Bears will need a pin from Ramon.

140/145 - The Bears will need wins from both Corke brothers to keep this one close and winnable.

152 - Jesse DeLaPena vs. Chris Garza - This match will be worth the price of admission. Garza is another Wapato wrestler who is capable of beating just about anybody. This match will probably go to the wrestler who gets the last takedown.

160/171/189 - These are three weight classes that the Bears should have a good chance of winning. Wins by McCullough, Nickerson and Corriel would help greatly in the team score.

215 - Eliseo Llerenas vs. Jesus Gonzalez - This could be the first big test for Llerenas. Gonzalez defeated Lance Reichert (2nd at state in 2000) earlier this year. Llerenas is capable of pulling off the upset.

Wapato has four other star wrestlers who will give the Bears trouble: 103 Rogelio Diaz, 112 Richie Herrera, 125 Teddy Herrera, 275 Jack Herron. If the Bears can win all of the above matches they will have an excellent chance of winning the dual.

Ki-Be Career record vs. Wapato - 2 wins 4 loses.
