Bears Wrestler of the Week
2002-2003

1/23/03 - 1/30/03
Justin Rolland - 160 - Junior

Justin Rolland started the week by winning in spectacular fashion against Othello. Trailing 16-6 in the third round, Justin hit his opponent with a barrage of takedowns to fight his way back to the victory. He gave up early points agains his Toppenish opponent, but came back with a pin to end the week 2-0. Justin has recorded 10 pins this season and has the ability to pin his opponent wether leading or trailing on the scoreboard. Justin has a good chance of breaking through for a state trip this year.

1/16/03 - 1/22/03
Junior Gonzalez - 135 - Sophomore

Junior Gonzalez defeated nemesis Tommie Lindquist of Quincy 7-5 to win the Newport Grizzly Den Classic. Junior was 0-2 lifetime against Lindquist, having lost 8-7 at state last year and 9-7 at the Grandview Invite this year. He is currently 21-4 this year and is ranked #1 in the CWAC. His lifetime record is 48-15. After placing 8th at state last year, Junior is looking to move up in the medal standings this year.

1/10/03 - 1/15/03
Brandon Ashley - 103 - Sophomore

Brandon is currently 17-3 on the season and owns a 45-17 career record. His performance at the Grandview Invite was shear dominance. Brandon pinned his first two opponents and then cleaned up with a tech fall in the finals. In the finals, Brandon must have thrown his opponent to his back at least three times. As he proved last year, Brandon is capable of beating anyone in the state at any time.

12/29/02 - 1/9/03
Josh Corriell - 171 - Senior

Josh went 3-0 at the Connell team tournament and pinned his East Valley opponent in a dual that the Bears won 45-25. Josh improved his season record to 20-0 and it looks as if no one will beat him this year. His career record now stands at 79-34 with 33 pins. Josh is currently ranked #1 in the CWAC, #1 among all 2A schools and #1 among all classifications by The Predictor.

12/18/02 - 12/28/02
Justin Corke - 140 - Senior

Justin Corke has given the Ki-Be fans even more to cheer about this year. After missing last season due to injury, Justin has been nothing but sensational this season. He has had three memorable matches with #1 CWAC wrestler Scott Ouradnik. He has led in each match before getting pinned in the first one and losing in overtime in the second. At the Royal Christmas Tourney, Justin finally turned the corner with a 9-7 win over Ouradnik in the title match.

12/7/02 - 12/17/02
Jerry Haug - 125 - Sophomore

Jerry recorded the first Bears pin of the year against Hanford, helping the team to a close 36-28 win. At the tough Connell Invite, he placed 4th, going 3-1 on the day. Jerry's record is currently 5-1 giving him 12 career highschool wins. If he can keep up this kind of wrestling, than the Bears may have another state participant come February.
