Bears Wrestler of the Week
2006-2007
Week 6 |
Britt Samsel - 215 - Junior |
Britt Samsel continues to improve and gain confidence. He went 2-0 in duals for the week with a stunning 8 second pin against Columbia-Burbank. Britt should do well in the post-season this year and could make his first trip to state this year. |
Week 5 |
Jake Johanns - 130 - Senior |
Jake had a great week with pins in both of his dual matches and a 3rd place finish at the Hoquiam invite. Jake looks poised and ready to make his run for state. The energy and excitement that Jake brings to the mat is a sight to see. Jake somtimes looks like he was shot out of a cannon the way he attacks his opponents. Look for Jake to make a good run at a state medal this year. |
Week 4 |
Johnny Roman-Rivera - 189 - Senior |
Johnny finished off week 4 by recording his first ever tournament championship. Johnny wrestled three tough matches at the Grandview Invite and put away his opponent in the title match 13-3. Johnny has now won 10 matches this year and has a legitimate shot at going to state, especially if he continues to wrestle as he did in the Grandview tournament. |
Week 3 |
Andy Campbell -125 - Sophomore |
Campbell continues to improve every match. He is a hard working individual and is always looking to improve. Andy will be an exciting wrestler to watch this year and in the years to come. This past week Andy placed 6th, missing 4th by 5 seconds, at the Royal Christmas Tournament. |
Week 2 |
Kyle Hagins - 140 - Senior |
Hagins had a great week which included a 5-1 record and 4 pins. The highlight of the week was beating Omar Avelar of Royal. Avelar had placed second at state in 2006, and Kyle dominated the match from start to finish winning 13-7. This is the kind of performance that will help Kyle go far this year. |
Week 1 |
Troy Cunningham - 119 - Junior |
Troy won 2 tourney titles during the first week of the season; the Bob Mars Invite and the Connell Invite. Troy is currently ranked 2nd in the SCAC. His only loss was against SCAC #1 Wally Almaguer in a dual against Granger. Look for Troy to go far at state this year. |
