Ki-Be vs. Othello

The results for this match will be updated after every 2-3 bouts as the match is taking place in Othello. I will be setting up the webcast page shortly. Sorry, no video webcast this time, we do not yet have the technology.

The Othello Huskies finished 3rd at state in the team standings last year and have a very strong team returning this year.  Othello's 6 state placers include Jason Giles (8th), Mark Schutte (4th), Jeremai Hafer (7th), Johnny Martinez (9th), Dan McCourtie (5th) and Eddie Keele (5th).  Ki-Be is 0-2 against Othello losing 49-19 last year and 43-31 in '98.

103 - Sergio surprised alot of people by making 103 last week.  Jason Giles could possibly wrestle at 103 this year for Othello. Avila vs. Giles would be worth the price of admission.  Giles defeated Sergio during the regular season, but Sergio defeated Giles in the 7th place match at state.

112 - If Giles is wrestling at 112 then Barry Leavitt will have a chance to wrestle another state contender.  Leavitt should fair better against Jason Giles than he did against Ramon Ortiz of Connell.  This is good experience for a freshman wrestler. Update: Information received says Schutte will wrestle here.

119 - Mark Schutte placed 4th at state last year and will have a good chance of repeating that performance this year.  David Vongalath, like Leavitt, will be starting his highschool career wrestling two of the top CWAC wrestlers.  Wrestling guys like this should make our young wrestlers better prepared come tournament time.

125 - A good matchup here would be DeLaPena vs. Schutte.  If Schutte is wrestling at 119 then Casey McCourtie could be Ale's opponent.  Ale looked strong in his season debut against Connell.

130 - Jeremai Hafer will probably move from 122 to 130 this year.  He was a pretty muscular looking 122 pounder and would fit in good at 130. Freshman sensation Josh Corke is undefeated in his highschool career (1-0) and now we get to see just how good he can be.

135 - Ramon DelAngel vs. Danny Villarreal. If Ramon wrestles aggressively like he did against Montez of Connell, than he should do just fine against Villarreal. Should be a close match. Winner should be the one who takes control early.

140 - Tim Valdez wrestled very well at tournament time and it will be another tough match for Paul Schlotman.

145 - A beefed up Jesse looks like he is going to be ready for all challenges this year. Could wrestle Valdez or Ben Jensen. This could be the coming out year for Jesse.

152 - Mark McCullough wrestled tough against Orozco last week should have a somewhat easier time with Othello, Ben Mohs possibly.

160 - Freshman sensation Josh Corriel looked confident in his win last thursday and should continue his winning ways against Othello.

171 - Mejia vs. Risenmay. Angel and Matt Risenmay had a few good matches last season and this one should be just as close. Risenmay defeated Mejia 1-0 at district last year.Update: Risenmay will wrestle at 160.

189 - This will be a highly contested matchup between Joey Isley and Johnny Martinez. Martinez pinned Isley during the regular season and at district. Isley rebounded at regionals and defeated Martinez 5-2, including a three point nearfall, to take third place.

215 - Dan McCourtie is top dog in the CWAC, but Canales has experience and ability to defeat McCourtie. He must wrestle his best however.

275 - Senior sensation Zach Lefevre will have his hands full with Eddie Keele. The aggressive style that Zach showed against Connell, could be just what he will need to beat Keele.Update: Keele did not turn out for wrestling this year.

If the Bears can get an early lead in the lightweight matches, and gain a split in the last four (171, 189, 215, 275), then they will have a chance to beat Othello for the first time.
